Further enhance your staff skills with our CPD Accredited training. It provides staff with an understanding of how the brain works, the basics of CBT, and how it can be used in their setting as part of every-day practise.
Trained CBT Facilitators can then improve their skills working with SEN students with our online on demand SEN Specialist Facilitator Training.

After the training you will:
- Understand how the brain develops and why students think/behave the way they do.
- Be able to explain the background and main concepts of CBT.
- Have knowledge of the most common CBT techniques used.
- Be able to facilitate written CBT activities with students.
- Be able to effectively work with groups of students as well as individuals.
- Be able to evaluate the effectiveness of CBT with students.
- Be able to recognise the barriers to CBT being effective and when CBT is not appropriate.

SEN & Mental Health - The Basics
- Understand how neurodiversity affects brain development.
- Recognise the main factors that increase risk of MH issues for SEN students
- Define the characteristics of the common Mental Health issues for SEN students – anxiety, depression, OCD.
- Recognise indicators of possible mental health issues in SEN students.
- Understand the concept of masking and the spoons analogy.
- Educate staff on how to be a protective factor for SEN students Mental Health.
Supporting SEN Student Mental Health
- Identify appropriate SEN mental health support using knowledge of evidence-based practice
- Understand and implement Polyvagal Theory into any therapeutic work.
- Select and modify appropriate support resources.
- Effectively facilitate SEN group interventions.
- Work in partnership with parents
Developing Independent SEN Students
- Understand the importance of autonomy and independence for SEN students.
- Support SEN students in developing self-awareness and emotional regulation skills.
- Understand and to identify students that need help with executive function skills.
- Provide a range of tools and strategies to help improve student organisation and self-management.
SEN & Behaviour Management
- Understand the impact of SEN on student behaviours.
- Consider causes of disruptive behaviour in SEN students.
- Recognise fair and proportionate consequences of disruptive behaviour.
- Identify evidence-based support using positive psychology principles.
- Implement successful interventions and support to positively change behaviours.
